National Ballet of Portugal - 2019—2021

Art Direction / Editorial / Print

The 2019/2020 season definitively marked the beginning of a new cycle for the National Ballet of Portugal (CNB). As such, a renewal of the visual approach was called for.

Without abandoning the human dimension that had characterised previous seasons, we defined a set of core principles — expressed essentially in photographic style, colour universe and typographic selection — upon which all of the Company's visual communication was built. Photography deliberately took a privileged and unifying role in the new language. The power of the images — supported by a confident dramaturgy, particularly well crafted between symbolism, hyperbole and non-sense — gave a distinctive tone to the CNB's visual communication and a much-desired positive energy to the institution.

The result, beyond its sublime elegance, reveals a CNB that is confident and uninhibited, bold and playful — capable, in this way, of truly drawing closer to its audience.
